What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths are Allied Health Professionals that are experienced in the treatment of the neuro-musculoskeletal system. In other terms, they help to treat and manage conditions of bones, muscles, nerves and other soft tissue that helps you move.  They aim to restore normal function and alignment of the body.

What do our Osteopaths treat and manage?

Health First Group’s expert Osteopaths can treat a broad range of conditions in people of all ages, including:

  • Back & Neck Pain
  • Ankle & Foot Injuries
  • ACL Rehabilitation
  • Headaches
  • Knee Injuries
  • Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Muscle & Ligament Injuries
  • Fracture Rehabilitation
  • Arthritis
  • Tendinopathy
  • Shoulder Injuries
  • Hip & Knee Replacement
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Tennis Elbow

What is the difference between an Osteopath and a Physiotherapist?

The choice between whether to see a physiotherapist or osteopath is up to the individual, as treatment preferences vary.

Whilst both professions treat/manage all muscle and joint issues, Osteopaths will incorporate more hands-on manual therapy and joint manipulation compared to Physiotherapists. Physiotherapists are also much more likely to include exercise as a part of treatment.

Do I need a referral to see an Osteopath?

No. You can seek the assistance of an Osteopath independently and self-refer.

Do you accept Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referrals for Osteopathy?

Yes. In recent years, the Federal Government initiated the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan which is funded by Medicare. People who satisfy the criteria for “chronic pain” are entitled to up to five (5) treatments per calendar year from allied health providers. We do not charge a ‘gap’ payment for EPC Ostepathy consultations.
